From RoyW - 15mm Moderns, Infantry & Journalists (24 Points)

Hello everyone,

First of all, well done to everyone who's so far posted pictures of their painted miniatures up onto this blog. I've looked at and read each and every post, but have refrained from leaving comments as I find that I never know what to say, and leaving "Very Nice" on every post would sound an empty platitude. I hope you all understand and don't think bad of me, due to this behaviour.

Right, my first contribution to the Painting Challenge.

Peter Pig 15mm Moderns (Range 17 AK-47 Republic) painted and based so I can play using the "Some Corner of a Foreign Field" rules. These represent a fictitious country's military, so the camo' and equipment is not painted to any actual pattern.

The two fire teams, the TV news crew and the war journalist.

Fire Team Alpha

Fire Team Bravo

TV news crew & camera toting Journalist

Twelve 15mm @ Two Points each, equals Twenty-Four Points total.

Thank you all for taking the time to check out my post.

From Curt:
Ah, great work Roy! I really like how clean your style is - it really makes these 15s 'pop', very nice. The TV/Journalist group is my favourite - quite useful for modern-day scenarios I would think. I'm also taken by the look of these 15s on slightly larger bases. I often use pennies for my 15s (as I have a large bowl of them and like the weight they give) but I think I'll have to try some larger MDF bases like these as I like the presence they give. 'Very nice.' (See, I think you could get away with that!)

  1. The reporters are great a nice addition to any game.

    1. @Adam Carriere: Thank you, I thought so to and the photojournalist will provide a chance to recreate an embedded reporter.

I haven't started mine yet, but I really appreciate the detail on these where I can see their faces! Yikes

In all honesty the Peter Pig sculpts should receive the credit for the facial painting detail, as I simply painted a highlight colour around the nose, mouth and cheeks.
The great thing about painting fictitious camouflage, is that you can pretend you haven't messed up the US Woodland Pattern camo' ;)

  7. Nice work Roy. The larger bases are a nice touch. Is it just me or does the media chappy on the left look like Adolf Hitler executing his trademark salute?

    5. Yep, there is certainly a touch of Der Führer in that paintjob, although it was unintentional. I spotted it myself after completion.
... Or it could be a 1970s Jimmy Hill, with that chin!

  8. 'Very nice' ;-)
No realy, some excellent stuff here. The camo on the troopers looks very convincing even if fictitious and the reporter team is just ace. One can never have enough civilians or the like to liven up the table

    1. @Moiterei_1984: Thank you for saying so.
Yes, I plan on adding more civilians to my collection in the new year, if for no other reason than that the civilian clothing allows so much freedom of colours and patterns.

The starting pay grade isn't very good as a private in the Ossian Joint Air and Land Forces though. You may want to try your hand at television work, first ;)

  12. I've never gotten into moderns myself, but the detail is very good on these little figures, better than most of my 28mms!

    1. @Tea Urn: Thank you. In honesty, these are probably painted better than the majority of my 28mm figures :(

No, moderns isn't something that I'd ever dreamed of playing in the past, but I really like the 2-page rules for this game and I've gotten past my aversion to playing real life, modern politics (and religions) by the creation of a fictitious nation and it's military troubles.

    2. @Tea Urn: I just noticed that the above looks like I've written your name incorrectly. I can assure you that it is in fact U r n, only the fonts are too closely spaced and it's resulted in the appearance on an 'm'.
      :)

  13. @Curt: Thank you for your kind words.

Yes, okay, the "very nice" was maybe a bit of a cop-out, and maybe a symptom I suffer from the trends of the painting forums I visit. I've since taken the time to comment on each and every post so far made and will carry on to do so.
If nothing else, I've created for myself a catch phrase ;))

  15. Très agréable, as the French would say. The scenario potential for a TV or camera crew on the table is one that's always excited my imagination. They'd work great in a multi-player skirmish game where one player could be in charge of the crew and trying to rack up points by "filming" key engagements.
